Today

A TERROIR FACING THE FUTURE

Being blessed with such a historical “terroir” is one thing, preserving it, even improving it, is quite another. The old Médoc saying, “A great wine is made in the vineyard” is as true at Château Léoville Poyferré today as it was in the past. Firstly a moderate use of natural fertiliser (1.5 to 2 /1000 of organic matter) with humus of vegetal origin only, (certified Organic Agriculture EEC N° 2092/9) ensures an easy absorption by the plant and optimises the agronomic reactions of the soils. Secondly, a permanent monitoring system of underground water movements (instalment of piezometres a decade ago), allows us to check the water supply to the vine plants.

The information obtained through this piezometre network (the only one of its kind among the Great Growths of the Médoc) will, for example, indicate the best time to work the soil.
