Léoville Poyferré's vine-care program includes an experimental and statistical approach orchestrated by Bruno CLENET, the estate's vine manager. He accomplishes the tasks himself on thirty plants in each plot so that he can monitor the development plot by plot and adapt the work plan accordingly. This quality control method also provides annual data.
Léoville Poyferré thus has at its disposal valuable information on bud burst, flowering, colour change and harvest dates over the past years. A sampling of 30 plants per plot allows an estimation of the future yield after careful counting of the grapes.
For an even greater mastery of the yields, Bruno CLENET adds a further sampling of 20 plants per plot among those worked on by his vine workers.
This hands-on method has brought excellent results over the last fifteen years, guaranteeing the maintenance of the yield at optimum quality level (between 45 and 50 hectolitres per hectare).
