Chateau Léoville Poyferré celebrates 100 years as a family property with the signature case
Autumn 2020
One hundred years after the acquisition of Château Léoville Poyferré, 2d Grand Cru Classé 1855 in Saint-Julien, the Cuvelier Family offers enthusiasts the opportunity to discover 6 emblematic vintages in a limited edition case. Although Sara Lecompte Cuvelier now directs the family’s properties in Saint-Julien and Saint-Estèphe, the Signature case pays homage to the era of her cousin Didier Cuvelier, during which he endeavored to develop the property over the last four decades. The exceptional vintages that compose this case bear witness to the imprint of time on the unique terroirs of an exceptional cru.
This “Signature” selection, produced in only 100 cases, is a real immersion into the heart of the graves terroirs characteristic of the Saint-Julien appellation.
Travel back in time into the heart of six exceptional vintages… from 1982 to 1996.
1982
A vintage that could be symbolised by a cornucopia from Greek mythology, it incarnates richness and opulence. It is under these auspices that the team of Chateau Léoville Poyferré outlined the silhouette of the first grand vin for this special case.
1983
Imprinted by a fabulous Indian summer, this vintage comes to stand shoulder to shoulder with the generosity of his older brother, signing a very accomplished style. The climate was idyllic throughout the vintage, making for very happy vineyardworkers all year long.
1989
The radiant sun shone brightly towards the end of this decade and sculpted wines of exceptional quality with magnificent cellaring potential.
1990
This vintage, far from being in the shadow of his elder, is stamped by the same sunny conditions of 1989 but very much has its own identity. Supple and unctuous, it dazzles with its bright, black fruit characteristics.
1995
A veritable blessing, this vintage reveals the sumptuous ampleness of Saint-Julien. Benefiting from a refurbished vat house that year, this harmonious wine embodies the true meaning of the expression “Grand Terroir”.
1996
A truly exceptional vintage for late ripening varieties in the Médoc. Fashioned by the generous signature of the Chateau Léoville Poyferré team and the singular finesse that is becoming of Saint-Julien. Wonderfully, it is starting to reveal all its charm.
