Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré 2018
The extraordinary equation
Extreme weather conditions wildly rocked the 2018 vintage between alternating periods of humidity and dryness.
At the heart of the emblematic graves of Saint-Julien, the vine was able to show us, once again, the magical effect of terroir.
From this extraordinary equation is born a vintage that sings harmoniously with elegance, complexity and balance.
Presse reviews
JamesSuckling.com – James Suckling : 94 (04.03.2021)
“Complex, harmonious nose with notes of plums, blackberries and currants, as well as spices and wood aromas. Full-bodied and balanced, showing an elegant combination of velvety, yet fine tannins. Long, flavorful finish. Second wine of Leoville Poyferre. Try after 2024.”
The Wine Doctor – Chris Kissack : 91 (02.11.2021)
“In this very rich vintage it is no surprise to find even the second wine of Léoville Poyferré displaying a very dense presence in the glass, and this is followed by a similarly focused and smoky nose, infused with intense aromas of confit cherry and sweet plum. The palate has an effusive style in keeping with this, simmering with grilled blackcurrant and cherry fruits, with notes of cedar, green peppercorn, vanilla pod and black pepper. It is a wine of great energy and phenolics, with a grippy presence of tannins in the finish. This has the potential to develop in bottle for a year or two, but can be enjoyed now.”
