Château Moulin Riche 2019

Due to soils composed of «black earths» and «black gravels», the plots of Moulin Riche offer the vine a unique ability to regulate the water supply to the plant throughout its vegetative cycle. This phenomenon helps to prevent water stress during summer droughts.

Here, the emblematic grape varieties of the Médoc; Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot flourish as well as Petit Verdot. The latter, being a late ripening grape variety, takes full advantage of the heat reflected by the gravels.A variety with small berries, the Petit Verdot brings depth to the blend with a spicy edge and a touch of freshness.

From this alliance, the gourmand character specific to the wines of Château Moulin Riche is born. A real explosion of black fruits, this solar vintage fills us with delight. Its elegant structure and roundness perfectly illustrate the very suave profile of the wines of the property.

Press reviews

Vinous Media – Antonio Galloni : 93 (24.02.2022)

“The 2019 Moulin Riche is a powerful, bold wine. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, licorice, tar and incense confer gravitas and weight. Potent tannins are well matched and very much confirm that impression. This is an especially somber, muscular Saint Julien with a ton of character. Drink it over the next decade or so.”

Decanter – Georgina Hindle : 91 (02.03.2022)

“Dark chocolate shavings with blackcurrants on the nose. Rich and concentrated with liquorice that is very much at the fore right now. Acidity provides a bright touch to the otherwise darker, more serious elements. Attractive presence and sculpting.”

JebDunnuck.com – Jeb Dunnuck : 93 (12.04.2022)

“Made by the team at Chateau Leoville Poyferré, the 2019 Château Moulin Riche is another pure, elegant wine in the vintage that has beautiful fruit. Darker currants, black cherries, tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth all emerge on the nose, and it’s medium to full-bodied, round, and textured on the palate, with supple, ripe tannins. It already offers pleasure yet will benefit from just 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.”
