Château Moulin Riche 2018

The 2018 vintage was released in a particularly important year for the Cuvelier family. As it bookmarks not only 100 years as proprietors of 2d Grand Cru Classé Chateau Léoville Poyferré, but also that of Chateau Moulin Riche.

Intimately linked since the 19th century, these two chateaux present distinctive styles produced from different terroirs of the appellation, displaying the richness and diversity of Saint-Julien.

Faithful to the family’s identity, the wines of both properties are the fruits of their heartfelt and rigorous labor, a timeless style reaffirmed by these modern new labels.

Press reviews

Vinous Media – Antonio Galloni : 92 (30.03.2021)

« A vintage in which Petit Verdot featured heavily here, at 17% of the blend. This has now been resting in bottle for a year, and it remains purely fashioned and well perfumed. It opens with a dense and smoky character, with dark liquorice, currant, crushed chalk and white pepper from the Cabernet, with hints of scented violet and lavender. A richly polished palate follows, seamless and integrated, with fine energy and fresh acidity. It has impressive drive for such a rich and warm vintage. A very good result which will doubtless give plenty of future pleasure, although you could pull the cork now if you were in the mood. »

« The 2018 Château Moulin Riche is a beauty. Absolutely loaded with notions of blueberries, cassis, candied orange, violets, and cedary spice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness that carries plenty of polished tannins, no hard edges, a big, layered mid-palate, and a great finish. Beautifully done, this perfumed, exotic Saint Julien will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for 15+. »

« The 2018 Moulin Riche has an attractive and well-defined bouquet of precise blackberry and briary aromas; cedar and light minty notes develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins; there is wonderful balance to this Moulin Riche. Quite sweet and velvety on the finish, with a touch of dark chocolate. Seductive. »
