Château Léoville Poyferré 2010

2008- 2009 – 2010 : First fabulous trilogy of the XXIst century

2010 is a sunny vintage reminiscent of 2009, although with lower temperatures. The wine itself shows the classicism of the 2008 vintage and the style of the 2005 with additional power.

The new double-wall truncated cone shaped vats allow a real plot-by-plot vinification of the Grand Vin for the first time, enabling a pre-fermentary cold maceration to be carried out in optimum conditions. The results are immediately visible both in the aromatic intensity of the fruit and in the quality of tannins extracted.

The Cabernet Sauvignon reveals the purity of its fruit with this vintage.

2010 promises an exceptional potential !

Our tasting notes – 2022

The 2010 vintage is a deep garnet color with ruby-vermeil highlights, showing pefect evolution.

Rich and complex on the nose, it is bursting with aromas of black fruit, plum, cassis, cedar, and spices.

On the palate, this vintage is imposing with fine-grained tannins.  Notes of plum, spices and cedar carry through to the lingering finish.  A touch of liquorice adds freshness to this powerful, beautifully balanced wine.  A great Saint-Julien of exquisite precision.

Press reviews

The Wine Advocate – Robert Parker : 98+

“The wine out distances both Leoville Las Cases and Leoville Barton, but all three of them are compelling efforts. Full-bodied, dense purple in color, with floral notes intermixed with blackberries, cassis, graphite and spring flowers, this full-bodied, legendary effort is long and opulent, with wonderfully abundant yet sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate and a thrilling, nearly one-minute finish. This spectacular effort from Poyferre that should drink well for 30+ years. Another spectacular wine from the Cuvelier family, Leoville Poyferre (along with Ducru Beaucaillou) may be one of the two best wines of St.-Julien year after year these days.”

Decanter – Jane Anson : 97 (01.06.2020)

“Rich and round with cinnamon, anise and black pepper. Luxuriously silky texture, very much the signature of the property, sitting perfectly against the fresh kick of the vintage. One of the few 2010s that has maintained its violet edging around the rim of the glass, suggesting that it has decades ahead.”

JamesSuckling.com – James Suckling : 97 (02.03.2021)

“Opulent aromas of blackberry, black cherry and orange peel follow through to a full body with round, creamy tannins and a flavorful finish. A big, significant wine that is starting to open and come around. A long life ahead of it. Drink or hold.”

Vinous Media – Neal Martin : 97 (21.04.2020)

“The 2010 Léoville Poyferré has a very intense bouquet with blackberry, briary cedar and light estuarine/seaweed aromas that are very well defined. Pure class. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins, layers of pure black fruit laced with pencil lead and a pinch of white pepper. It fans out wonderfully towards the finish, a Saint-Julien demonstrating wonderful density and precision. What an outstanding wine, perhaps less flamboyant than other vintages, one that will last decades. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal.”
